Collaboration Patterns in Indigenous Library and Information Science Journals available in Public University Libraries in South-South Nigeria (2018–2022): A Bibliometric Analysis.

Abstract
This study investigates collaboration patterns in indigenous Library and Information Science (LIS) journals available in public university libraries in South-South Nigeria from 2018 to 2022. Employing a mixed-methods research design integrating document analysis, survey, and case study approaches, the study examined a total of fifteen indigenous LIS journals housed in the University of Calabar, University of Uyo, and University of Port Harcourt libraries. Using total enumeration sampling, the entire population of relevant journals was analyzed. Secondary data were collected through an inventory of documents from the Serials Departments of the respective university libraries. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics, including frequency counts and percentages, presented in tabular form. Findings indicate that the prevalence of multi-authored papers, indicative of collaboration, was relatively low across the studied period. Additionally, authors affiliated with public universities demonstrated higher research productivity, with authors from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Rumuolumeni, Port Harcourt, contributing the greatest number of articles to the indigenous LIS journals available in the region. The study recommends that university administrators should enhance infrastructural support and create enabling environments for LIS researchers. Furthermore, librarians are encouraged to actively engage in collaborative research endeavours to improve research quality through skill sharing and effective dissemination of findings within the public university system.

Availability and Use of Library Resources by Lawmakers in Legislative Libraries in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Abstract
This study examined the availability and use of library resources in legislative libraries in Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. Five research questions were formulated and descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample size of 217 respondents were drawn from the target population of 469 lawmakers and heads of three legislative libraries in FCT, Abuja. Data was collected using observation checklist and questionnaire and a response rate of 86% was obtained. Collected data were analysed descriptively and presented in tables and percentages. The findings revealed that books, newspapers, and special collections are all available in the legislative libraries studied. It was discovered that special collections were the most used resources with a mean of 3.51. However, gaps in digital resources, ICT infrastructure, and up-to-date materials limit optimal use, indicating a need for improved funding and modernization to fully support legislative activities. The study recommended that legislative libraries in FCT should acquire relevant and current resources and also provide funds necessary for the acquisition of ICT facilities and alternative source of power.

Assessing the Impact of Artificial Intelligence Based Library Instruction on Students' Learning Outcomes in Nigerian Universities

Abstract
The study assessed the impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based library instruction on student learning outcomes in Nigerian universities. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. A total of 1,040 students was selected using simple random sampling, with 520 students chosen from each school. Taro Yamene formula was used to select a sample size of two hundred and eighty-seven (287) from the total population. A self-structured questionnaire was used for data collection. A self-structured instrument titled AI-based library instruction, AI-driven systems and Challenges Questionnaire (AACQ), scored on a 4-point rating scale served as an instrument of data collection. The reliability coefficient of AACQ was 0.78 determined by administering the instrument to 30 students in Bayelsa State outside the scope. The scores from the instrument were analyzed using Cronbach Alpha. The data collected was analyzed using mean and standard deviation, and t-test inferential tool was employed to test the null hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. The findings of study revealed among others that AI-based library instruction has a positive impact on students learning outcomes in Nigerian universities, as it improves information search techniques, enhances critical thinking skills, and increases confidence in academic research. The study recommended among others that IAUE and UNIPORT should focus on upgrading their library infrastructure. This includes investing in high-speed internet, modern computers, and AI-powered tools to support the effective integration of AI in library instruction.

Appointments of University Librarians in Nigerian Universities: A Way Forward

Abstract
This opinion paper critically examines the systemic challenges surrounding the selection of University Librarians in Nigerian Universities, highlighting cases of ethnic favoritism, procedural violations, and compromised governance. Drawing from both scholarly literature and real-world incidents most notably is the controversial 2025 appointment of University Librarian in one Federal University in South South Geopolitical Zone Nigeria, the paper also underscores the negative implications of such practices for library innovation, staff morale, and institutional credibility. In contrast, it explores models of best practice where transparent, merit-based processes have resulted in visionary leadership and improved service delivery. The paper concludes by advocating for a multifaceted reform agenda, including stricter regulatory oversight, harmonized appointment frameworks, professional advocacy, and capacity building strategies. Ultimately, it argues that restoring professionalism, transparency, and meritocracy in leadership appointments is essential for strengthening university libraries as engines of academic excellence and national development.

Nurses' Digital Literacy Skills and Use of Online Health Information Resources (OHIRs) in Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) in Ijebu-Ode LG, Ogun State.

Abstract
Access to credible and up-to-date health information is essential for improving clinical decision making, evidence-based practice and professional development among nurses in Primary Healthcare Centers. Therefore, this study investigated nurses' digital literacy skills and use of Online Health Information Resources (OHIRs) in Primary Healthcare (PHC) centers in Ijebu-Ode LG. Descriptive survey research design and total enumeration sampling technique was adopted. A questionnaire was administered to ninety-two (92) nurses. A total of 79(85.87%) copies of questionnaires were returned and analysed using frequency count, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The findings of the study revealed that Online Health Information Resources (OHIRs) are frequently used by nurses, the primary prupose of using OHIRs was primarily for continuing professional development and clinical decision-making. Nurses surveyed demonstrated high digital literacy skills in using Online Health Information Resource OHIRs). While the challenges faced by nurses in using OHIRs includes poor health information literacy, unreliable internet connectivity, shortage of trained personnel, inaccessibility of resources, and insufficient funding. In conclusion, this study's findings on nurses' digital literacy skills and use of Online Health Information Resources in Primary Healthcare Centers in Ijebu-Ode LG showed a frequent usage of Online Health Information Resources and high digital literacy skills of nurses. The study recommends among others that government and health authorities should prioritise investment in reliable internet access and digital infrastructure within primary healthcare centres in other to facilitate and sustain the usage of Online Health Information Resources by nurses.

Application of Artificial Intelligence Tools for Effective Digital Resource Management in Academic Libraries in Benue State, Nigeria.

Abstract
The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into digital library resource management is transforming how academic libraries organise, retrieve, and deliver information. This qualitative study explored the types of AI tools adopted in academic libraries in Benue State, Nigeria, their impact on cataloguing accuracy, information retrieval, user satisfaction, and the challenges affecting effective adoption. A systematic search was conducted across five scholarly databases—Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, JSTOR, and EBSCOhost—yielding 112 relevant articles published between 2020 and 2025. After applying inclusion criteria, 48 articles were selected for detailed analysis, of which 35 were found most pertinent to the study objectives. Findings revealed that AI tools such as chatbots, recommender systems, robotic process automation (RPA), semantic search engines, optical character recognition (OCR), and predictive analytics are increasingly applied in library operations, automating cataloguing, improving metadata accuracy, accelerating retrieval, and supporting personalised user experiences. The study also identified key challenges including inadequate infrastructure, limited technical expertise, high implementation costs, and ethical concerns related to data privacy and algorithmic bias. Overall, AI integration enhances operational efficiency, data-driven decision-making, and digital preservation, positioning libraries as more interactive and intelligent learning environments. The study recommends investments in digital infrastructure, capacity-building for library staff, and clear policy frameworks to ensure sustainable and ethical AI adoption in library management.

Artificial Intelligence Enabled Research Data Services in Academic Libraries: Opportunities and Ethical Challenges

Abstract
Academic libraries are increasingly integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their research data services (RDS), fundamentally transforming the management, organisation, and dissemination of scholarly information. Through technologies such as machine learning, natural language processing, and predictive analytics, AI enables automation in metadata creation, data discovery, and knowledge extraction, thereby enhancing efficiency and research impact. These tools empower libraries to deliver more responsive, data-driven, and personalised support to researchers across disciplines. However, the adoption of AI also raises critical ethical questions concerning data privacy, algorithmic bias, transparency, and accountability. If left unaddressed, these challenges may undermine trust and perpetuate inequalities in knowledge access. This conceptual paper therefore examines both the technological opportunities and ethical dilemmas associated with AI-enabled research data services in academic libraries. It emphasises that sustainable and responsible AI implementation requires human oversight, equitable data governance, and adherence to ethical frameworks that safeguard inclusivity and fairness. The paper concludes that balancing innovation with ethical responsibility is essential for ensuring that AI integration strengthens, rather than compromises the library's enduring mission to facilitate open, reliable, and equitable access to information in the digital age.

Impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on Women in Academics: Bridging Gender Inequality in the Research Output of the Nigerian Library and Information Science Ecosystem

Abstract
Despite numerous initiatives to promote gender parity in academic research, disparities in research productivity between male and female academics still persist, particularly in developing countries like Nigeria. This study explores whether the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools can help close the gender gap in research output among Library and Information Science (LIS) academics in Nigerian universities. The study population comprised one hundred and forty-four (144) female academics and given the relatively small size of the population, a total enumeration sampling technique was employed. Data were collected using both open- and closed-ended questionnaires. Responses from the open-ended items were analyzed thematically, while the closed-ended items were examined using descriptive statistics, with the results presented in charts. Findings reveal that a significant number of respondents actively deploy AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT, QuillBot, TypeSet IO, Humata AI, GrammarGPT and Gamma App for their research writing with ChatGPT emerging as the most widely used. These tools support diverse aspects of research writing which include idea generation, literature review, grammar refinement, manuscript preparation and citation management, all of which enhance productivity and research quality. The results also suggest that AI adoption is mitigating gender-specific barriers such as family responsibilities that have historically limited women's research visibility and output. Importantly, the major constraints to AI adoption identified in this study were ethical, technical and institutional challenges. Overall, the study concludes that AI adoption holds significant potential to narrow the gender gap in academic productivity by empowering female lecturers to compete more equitably with their male counterparts if ethical and institutional challenges are addressed.

Challenges of Artificial Intelligence, User Interface and Application in Library Service Delivery Among Academic Librarians in Federal University of Lafia.

Abstract
This study examined the challenges of Artificial Intelligence (AI), user interface design, and their application in library service delivery among academic librarians at the Federal University Lafia, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey design with a population of eight (8) academic librarians working across major departments of the University Library, including cataloguing, reference, circulation, and ICT services. A census approach was used due to the small population size. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire validated by experts and tested for reliability through the test–retest method, yielding a correlation coefficient of 0.72. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency counts, mean, and standard deviation, aided by the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). Findings revealed that major challenges hindering AI implementation in library operations include lack of technical expertise, inadequate funding, unreliable power supply, and poor ICT infrastructure. Despite these limitations, respondents recognized the benefits of AI in enhancing the speed and accuracy of library operations, promoting 24/7 access to information, and improving personalized service delivery. The study concludes that while academic librarians at Federal University Lafia are aware of AI's potential to transform library services, structural and institutional barriers significantly limit its adoption. It recommends sustained investment in digital infrastructure, capacity-building programs, and the design of user-friendly AI interfaces to enhance effective service delivery and technological innovation in Nigerian academic libraries.

Factors Influencing Librarians' Awareness and Knowledge of Application of Artificial Intelligence for Services Delivery in Academic Libraries in Yobe State, Nigeria

Abstract
This research is on the factors influencing librarians' awareness and knowledge of application of artificial intelligence for services delivery in academic libraries in Yobe State, Nigeria. The study was guided by two (2) objectives and two (2) research questions. Survey research design was used and total population sampling technique was employed for the study, because the population of 182 was manageable while questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and results were presented in tables using frequency counts and percentage scores. The major findings are; that majority of the respondents are unaware of the application of AI for library services delivery and the extent of librarians' knowledge on application of AI for library services delivery revealed no extent by majority of the respondents. Based on the research findings, the following recommendations were made for improvement; That, the management of the tertiary institutions should promote awareness on application of AI for library services delivery especially in areas that include; awareness of how AI-powered tools applications can be integrated into library services delivery, awareness of different types AI-powered tools and how they can be used for different library services delivery, awareness of the high privacy intrusion and ethical issues of AI tools application in the library for services delivery. In order to increase the extent of librarians' knowledge on application of AI for library services delivery, the management of these tertiary institutions should be able to provide some influencing factors like proper funding, workshops, conferences and seminars on AI application and use for library services delivery in the tertiary institutions.

Information Services as Determinants of Enhanced Library use among Undergraduates in Public Universities in Lagos State, Nigeria

Abstract
Libraries are repository of knowledge, the heart of every reputable university, and agent of change that provide foundation for educational growth and development of any civilized society. This study investigated the influence of information services on library use among undergraduates in public universities in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study adopted cross-sectional survey research design. The total population of the study was 59,130 students of the selected institutions. A sample of 477 undergraduates from two selected public universities in Lagos State, Nigeria, was derived using Krejcie and Morgan formula. Multi-stage sampling technique was employed and structured questionnaire was used to collect the primary data from the sample size. The research used 477 respondents in the survey, while 368 copies of the questionnaire administered were filled and returned, therefore, the response rate was 77.14%. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and simple regression analysis. Findings revealed a significant effect of information services on library use, (β = 0.869, t = 26.745, p < 0.05): Most of the students use the library for reading in preparation for their examinations to find specific information in their field of interest, and for assignments. The study recommended that the management of university libraries should, therefore, have periodic physical and online, exhibition of their services, newsletters to share interesting events with the university's populace, which will also be used to promote the library and to publicize their periodical events.

Digital Competencies of Academic Librarians for Effective Provision of Digital Reference Services in Selected Federal University Libraries in Northern Nigeria

Abstract
The research examines the influence of digital competencies on the provision of digital reference services among academic librarians in selected federal university libraries in northern Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted. The population comprised 394 academic librarians in the twenty (20) selected federal university libraries. The entire population was used, as the number of academic librarians was manageable. A questionnaire was used for data collection. Out of a total of 394 copies of the questionnaire that were administered, 305 questionnaires representing 77.4% of the respondents were returned in a usable form. The data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings revealed that 141(46.2) of the respondents can handle different communication networks (LAN, WAN, MAN, etc.). Also, 138(43.6) of the respondents can use digital communication tools (e.g. email, chat, video conferencing) to interact with the users for the provision of DRS. However,240(78.7%) acquired digital competencies through in-service sponsorship (formal education). Analysis of the regression coefficient revealed that digital competencies were predicted to account for a 47.0% influencing power on the provision of digital reference services with a t-statistic value of 9.469, ß =.047, p=.000, which is <05, statistically significant. It was recommended that the management of the federal university libraries should provide sufficient technological infrastructure to ensure that libraries have adequate resources, including computers, mobile devices, and reliable internet connectivity, to support digital reference services and consider funding grants to educate and retrain academic librarians through attending conferences, workshops, and seminars to acquire digital competencies to enhance performance and for capacity building.

Exploring the Potential of Artificial Intelligence for Self-Employment Among Graduate Students of Library I S Schools

Abstract
The paper explores the Potential of Artificial Intelligence for Self-employment among Graduate Students in Library IS Schools. The paper is based on a systematic literature review analysis on the topic, and five (5) specific objectives guided the study. The concepts discussed were artificial intelligence, artificial intelligence applications in libraries, self-employment opportunities for LIS graduates in AI-driven library services, benefits of artificial intelligence in library and information science. The paper identified AI applications in libraries including Natural Language Processing (NLP), AI-based cataloguing system, AI-powered Chabot’s and virtual assistants, AI-driven recommendation system, Predictive Analytics, Biological Sciences Index System (BIOSIS), AI-driven Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, etc. The paper also examined how Artificial intelligence can help LIS graduates establish businesses in areas like automated indexing and cataloguing services; cloud librarianship; AI-enhanced training; online consultancy ventures that manage digital libraries and provide remote research support; data-driven consultancy services; AI-based bibliometric analysis services; and the creation of AI-driven research assistants. The paper observed that artificial intelligence can present an opportunity to distinguish graduate students of LIS schools in exploring innovative business in the job market. Integrating AI can foster innovation in LIS by enabling libraries to adopt emerging technologies and respond effectively to changing information demands. The study presents challenges ranging from technical to ethical, and then funding. These can delay the integration of AI for self-employment businesses. The study also presents new opportunities for self-employment; and showed howstudents can improve their employability by acquiring AI skills and being owners of their business providing AI-based library services. For students to successfully explore more potential of AI-based library services for self-employment, the paper recommended that LIS institutions should teach students Artificial Intelligence in Library Research and Practices during their undergraduate program so that when they graduate they can start up something with the knowledge; university management should improve on ICT infrastructures; and the government should increase funding. LIS schools should also collaborate and share ideas with AI firms to develop AI-related policies.

Leveraging Library Services in Nigeria for Climate Change Education and Environmental Awareness: From Bookshelves to Green Shelves

Abstract
Climate change poses an unprecedented threat to Nigeria's socio-economic stability, environmental health, and sustainable development. While education remains one of the most powerful tools for climate action, libraries, especially public and academic institutions, are underutilized in advancing environmental literacy. This study explores the transformative potential of Nigerian libraries in promoting climate change education and environmental awareness, shifting their focus from bookshelves to green shelves. The paper argues that libraries can serve as hubs for climate knowledge dissemination, community engagement, and sustainable behavioural change. The paper outlines the conceptual framework of green shelves as dedicated spaces for curated climate resources, complemented by targeted programmes such as workshops, exhibitions, and grassroots environmental initiatives. It also highlights the importance of capacity building for librarians, partnerships with environmental stakeholders, and the adoption of eco-friendly operational practices. Furthermore, it emphasizes the need for supportive policies, institutional funding, and government recognition of libraries as active climate actors. By positioning libraries as agents of social change, the paper calls for an integrated strategy that combines information services, community participation, and sustainable development goals to combat climate change. This approach not only strengthens Nigeria's environmental resilience but also reinforces the library's evolving role in addressing 21st-century challenges.

Women in Library and Information Management Services for National Development

Abstract
This paper examined women role in library and Information management services (LIMS) as a panacea for national development. The study seeks to answer the following questions: How has women involvement in library management enhanced LIMS and national development in Tropical Africa? To what extent has women roles in library services stimulates educational objectives? What expectations from women librarian can impact national development in Africa. The study applied survey method that adopted google form web base data management tool to design the questionnaire to gather data on women impact in library management and services. The collected data via google form was screened and analyzed using “Power Business Intelligent” (PBI). The study revealed that, women role in library ensures technological inclusion for information dissemination services. That to a very great extent the women role stimulates educational objective via information services. The study further revealed the expectations from women librarian toward national development. Women in Libraries and information services make available the wealth of human expression and cultural diversity in all information transmission. The study recommended the following: to support women inclusion in national development policy, nations must give priority attention to the women contributions to information service provision in their country. finally, that the ideal library expectations must be a national interest. This will enable the citizens to make informed and responsible decisions resulting first and foremost to personal development which will culminate into collective or national development. Women in Library information services being critical to national development need to be encouraged at all levels of national, state and local library system.

Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for the Preservation of Library Materials: Enhancing Access and Longevity in Academic Libraries in Cross River State

Abstract
This study investigated the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the preservation of library materials in academic libraries in Cross River State, with a focus on enhancing access and longevity. Three objectives were used to guide the study. Employing a cross-sectional survey design, data were collected from 241 respondents from four tertiary institution libraries in the study area, using a validated instrument titled Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for the Preservation of Library Resources Scale (LAIP-LRS). Reliability testing through Cronbach's alpha confirmed high internal consistency. Regression analysis revealed that all three AI dimensions—digitization, metadata generation, and predictive preservation significantly predicted preservation effectiveness, leading to the rejection of the null hypotheses. The findings highlight AI technologies as central drivers of modern preservation strategies. Specifically, digitization safeguards fragile resources while broadening accessibility, metadata generation ensures discoverability and usability, and predictive preservation enables proactive risk management. Theoretically, the study extends existing scholarship by providing empirical evidence on AI's contribution to preservation within the Nigerian academic context. Practically, the results underscore the imperative for libraries to prioritize AI investment, develop policy frameworks, and strengthen continuous professional training. Furthermore, stakeholders including government agencies, academic management, and library associations are urged to foster funding and collaborative initiatives. Collectively, these measures will ensure the protection of cultural and intellectual heritage while promoting equitable knowledge access globally.

Reimagining Library Services in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

Abstract
This paper critically interrogates how artificial intelligence is reshaping the epistemic, operational, and ethical foundations of contemporary library services. Moving beyond deterministic narratives of automation, it argues that AI constitutes a paradigmatic shift in the organization, discovery, and governance of knowledge, transforming both user experiences and professional practices. Drawing on a multi-theoretical framework, the Technology Acceptance Model, Diffusion of Innovations, Sociotechnical Systems Theory, and Critical Algorithm Studies/Algorithmic Accountability Framework, the study develops an integrative lens for analysing AI adoption, human–system interaction, and ethical oversight in library environments. It demonstrates that AI-driven discovery, metadata enrichment, personalization, and automated workflows present significant opportunities for enhancing access, efficiency, and research intelligence, while simultaneously generating complex risks related to bias, opacity, privacy, and pedagogical integrity. Through conceptual synthesis, the paper argues that sustainable AI integration requires sociotechnical alignment, participatory governance, transparent system design, and continuous capacity-building that preserves human expertise at the core of library services. It further proposes a governance and evaluation blueprint to support responsible innovation, including layered oversight structures, algorithmic audits, and mixed-method assessment regimes. Ultimately, the paper contends that libraries can reimagine services without compromising foundational commitments to equity, intellectual freedom, and public trust, positioning librarians as ethical mediators and algorithmic stewards in emerging AI-driven knowledge ecosystems.

Transformative Roles of Artificial Intelligence in LIS Education and Practice for Innovative Workforce in FUTMinna

Abstract
This study examines the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Library and Information Science (LIS) education and practice to advance workforce innovation at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Nigeria. It evaluates AI's impact on LIS curricula, professional practice, skills development, and adoption challenges, while proposing strategies for effective integration. A quantitative research design was adopted, utilizing a structured questionnaire based on a 5-point Likert scale (5 = Strongly Agree to 1 = Strongly Disagree). The study population comprised 23 LIS educators, 421 undergraduate and postgraduate students, and 24 professional librarians, totaling 448 respondents. 448 questionnaires were distributed of these, 394 valid responses were received, yielding an 87.95% response rate. Results show that 85% of respondents agreed or strongly agreed that AI integration in LIS curricula is essential for preparing a competent workforce, while 82% indicated that AI enhances operational efficiency and user engagement. Furthermore, 80% acknowledged AI's role in fostering creativity and innovation, whereas 76% cited high implementation costs and inadequate training as major constraints. The study concludes that AI integration is critical for bridging the LIS skills gap, driving innovation, and sustaining relevance in the 21st-century knowledge economy. It recommends regular AI-focused training for LIS stakeholders, strategic technology partnerships, supportive policy frameworks, and increased government funding to accelerate adoption. These measures are essential to equip LIS professionals with future-ready competencies and position the discipline as a driver of digital transformation.

Exploring Inclusive Library Spaces for Equity in University Libraries in South East Nigeria

Abstract
This study examined the inclusiveness and accessibility of library spaces in university libraries across South East Nigeria. Adopting a descriptive survey design, it targeted professional and paraprofessional library staff alongside registered users, selected through a multi-stage sampling approach. Data were gathered using a validated structured questionnaire focusing on space design, its effect on academic engagement, barriers to accessibility, and improvement strategies. Descriptive statistics—frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations—were applied to answer the research questions. Findings showed that, while ramps, elevators, and clear signage are commonly available, the overall inclusivity of library spaces was rated as moderate (cluster mean = 2.89). Facilities specifically serving users with hearing or visual impairments were notably limited. Respondents strongly agreed that poor accessibility reduces library use and hampers academic engagement (cluster mean = 2.92), with indications of uneven inclusivity across diverse user backgrounds. Major barriers identified included inadequate funding, insufficient staff training, and weak institutional policy frameworks (cluster mean = 2.97). Proposed strategies to strengthen diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) received high ratings (cluster mean = 3.07), with emphasis on dedicated budgets, universal design standards, and targeted staff capacity-building.

Role of Library Services in Promoting Gender Equity among Students in Federal Polytechnic, Ayede, Oyo State, Nigeria.

Abstract
Academic libraries promote equity through various gender-sensitive library services. However, in Nigerian polytechnics, the role of library services in promoting gender equity remains underexplored. This study investigates how library services contribute to gender equity among students at Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Oyo State, Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive case study design and data were collected through structured questionnaires that was distributed to students at the Polytechnic. The multistage sampling technique was used to stratify the student population 871, while 594 respondents were selected using the Yamane sample size formula. The findings reveal that several equity-driven services are available and frequently used by students. However, critical gaps persist, which limit inclusivity. Results further indicate a statistically significant, though modest, positive relationship between library services and gender equity (R = .122, p = .003). This underscores the library's potential as an underutilized mechanism for bridging gender disparities. The study concludes that while progress has been made, enhancing equitable library services is imperative to fully realize the library's role in advancing equity. Future efforts should prioritize sustained investment in digital literacy, feedback systems, gender-responsive service delivery, and conducting longitudinal studies to measure their impact on closing gender gaps in academic achievement and engagement. This research provides a foundational model for assessing and enhancing the role of library services in promoting gender equity in similar tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

Abuse of Social Media Platforms and In-school Risky Behaviour Among Students of Selected Rural Secondary Schools in Uzo-Uwani LGA, Enugu State.

Abstract
This study investigates the abuse of social media platforms and in-school risky behaviour among students of selected rural secondary schools in Uzo-Uwani LGA, Enugu State. The study employed a descriptive research design, using a questionnaire as an instrument for data collection. The findings revealed that Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Twitter and Instagram are the most utilized social media platforms among students in selected rural secondary schools in Uzo-Uwani LGA. It was also found out that some of the in-school risky behaviour of students in selected rural secondary schools in Uzo-Uwani LGA include lesbianism, homosexuality, drinking alcohol, smoking and drug use, prostitution/promiscuity, cultism, corruption, free sex, stealing or tapping, pornographic books/films etc. The study recommends that teachers and secondary school management Board should include the use of digital tools in the curriculum of the secondary school. This is to ensure that proper training and orientation of the use of social media platforms is provided to the students. Finally, government should censor some of the social media platforms that contain contents which secondary school students should not be exposed to use i.e. user restriction in terms of age should be applied to all social media platform.

Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Practices in Academic Libraries: A Scoping Review.

Abstract
This study aims to identify practical activities that showcase EDI in academic libraries through scoping reviews. Four open access databases were selected for the study. These were DOAJ, JSTOR, Google scholar, and Z-Library. Only literature published between 2015 -2022 was selected for the study. A literature search through the selected databases identified only five articles that discussed actions taken in academic libraries to implement EDI. Four of the articles are from Google scholar and one from DOAJ. Analysis of the articles shows that practical implementation of EDI happens in American University Libraries. Evidence of these practical actions are published in journal articles. The evidence reports what happened in particular libraries.

Lassa Fever Pandemic, What can be Done to Curb the Effects and Spread: A Study of Six Selected Federal University Libraries in the Six Geo-Political Zones of Nigeria

Abstract
This paper investigated the roles of libraries as information centers in reducing the effects and spread of Lassa fever disease in Nigeria. Lassa fever is a zoonotic disease that humans contact from infected animals like rats especially through eating infested food exposed to the shed of rat's urine and faeces. The study employed descriptive survey research design and the population was 284 academic librarians working at selected federal university libraries in South East, South South, South West, North Central, North East and North West geo-political zones of Nigeria. The instrument for data collection was structured questionnaire. 284 copies of the instrument were administered while 147 were retrieved and found usable making a 51% of return response. The coefficient test of the instrument yielded 0.83 using Chronbach Alpha Reliability coefficient. Data was analyzed using simple percentages and mean scores. The study revealed the modes of spread of Lassa fever disease such as contact with contaminated excreta of the rodent (mastomys natalenis), direct contact with the bodily secretion of infected person among others. Its effects on humans and economy ranges from stigmatization, socio-economic challenges and mucosal bleeding and other allied diseases to victims. Furthermore, the outbreak can lay off foreign investors in Nigeria economy and deprives the National Tourist centers clients. Libraries can help reduce the effects and spread of Lassa fever through outreach programmes, social media platforms and repackaging of information.

Artificial Intelligence Knowledge and Skills among Selected Librarians in Mubi. Adamawa State Tertiary Institutions: An Empirical Study

Abstract
The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping information management and redefining library service delivery globally. In response to these developments, this study examined the AI knowledge and skills of librarians in tertiary institutions within Mubi, Adamawa State, Nigeria. The study population consisted of 95 librarians, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire. A descriptive survey design was employed, and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and ANOVA. The findings showed that librarians demonstrated moderate awareness and skill levels in AI, but the practical application of AI tools in library operations remains limited. The study also found that training gaps and infrastructural deficiencies continue to hinder effective AI adoption. It concludes that although librarians are increasingly aware of AI, stronger institutional support is required to enhance competence and utilization. The study recommends targeted capacity building, improved ICT infrastructure, and the establishment of clear institutional policies to advance AI integration in library services.

Impact of Blockchain Technology Adoption on Information Security Practices in University Libraries in Kwara State, Nigeria

Abstract
This study investigated the impact of blockchain technology adoption on information security practices in university libraries in Kwara State, Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was adopted, the population of the study comprises of 120 librarians, and data were sampled from 105 librarians. Total enumeration method was used and data was gathered through a structured questionnaire and were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation to test the study's hypothesis. The study found that information security practices in the selected libraries were moderately implemented. While technical measures such as password protection, data backups, and antivirus use were well enforced, organizational strategies like staff training and continuous monitoring were less effective. Librarians showed a basic awareness of blockchain technology as a secure and decentralized system but lacked understanding of its advanced applications due to limited training opportunities. Major barriers to adoption included poor ICT infrastructure, unstable power supply, high costs, and inadequate technical skills. Statistical analysis revealed a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.421, p < 0.05) between blockchain adoption and information security practices, implying that increased blockchain integration could enhance data protection, authentication, and transparency in library operations. The study concludes that librarians in Kwara State are conceptually ready for blockchain adoption but face infrastructural, financial, and human-capacity challenges. It recommends improved ICT infrastructure to support deployment, provision of blockchain-focused training and workshops for librarians, and development of institutional policies to guide blockchain integration in university libraries.

Capacity Building for Librarians in the Age of Artificial Intelligence: Training Needs and Institutional Readiness in Collage of Education Hong, Adamawa State.

Abstract
The rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping information management and service delivery in academic libraries. This study assessed the capacity building needs and institutional readiness of librarians at the College of Education, Hong, Adamawa State, for effective AI adoption. Using a descriptive survey design, the population of 39 out of 43 Library staff participated in the study. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire titled AI Readiness and Strategy Questionnaire (AIRSQ), and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). Findings revealed that librarians possessed moderate levels of AI literacy but showed limited practical competence in applying AI tools. Training needs were high, particularly in chatbots systems, data analytics, and ethical AI use. Institutional readiness was moderate, supported by leadership commitment but hindered by weak policy frameworks and inadequate funding. ANOVA results indicated significant relationships between AI literacy and institutional readiness, as well as between leadership support and preparedness levels (p < 0.05). The study concludes that successful AI integration requires both individual capacity development and institutional policy reforms. It recommends continuous professional development programs, establishment of AI policies, and strategic partnerships with ICT units to build sustainable AI-driven library services.
